Sector shipments recover levels equivalent to the pre-pandemic years
Surveys by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) show that Brazilian egg exports totaled 3.177 thousand tons in the first two months of 2021. The number exceeds by 150.6% the volume shipped in the same period last year, with a total of 1.267 thousand tons.
In terms of revenue, sales in the egg sector reached US $ 4.128 million in the first two months of this year, a result 152.8% higher than in the same period of 2020, with US $ 1.633 million.
Considering only the month of February, sales in the sector reached 1.552 thousand tons, a number 247.9% higher than that achieved in the second month of last year, with 446 tons. In revenue, the February result reached US $ 2.099 million, a balance 172.8% higher than the US $ 769 thousand realized in the same comparative period.
The main destination for egg exports from Brazil, the United Arab Emirates were destinations of 2.356 thousand tonnes in the first two months of this year, a volume 209.7% higher than that registered in the same period in 2020. Without imports registered in 2020, Sierra Leone assumed the second place in Brazilian egg exports this year, with 103 tons shipped. In third place, Japan imported 89.2 tonnes, a 103% higher number, according to the same comparative period.
“The strong increase in exports in 2021 resumes the levels of shipments practiced before the pandemic. The sales balance increases the foreign exchange generated by the productive sector at an especially important time for the egg sector, with strong production costs ”, says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
