Data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) show that in January, Brazilian exports of fertile eggs and poultry genetic material reached a total of 1,194 tonnes, a volume 37.2% lower than the 1,902 tonnes shipped in the same period last year. .
Only shipments of fertile eggs registered 1,121 tonnes, 38.2% less compared to the same month of 2019, with 1,816 tonnes. In revenue, exports reached US $ 4.834 million, a decrease of 40.1% referring to the same period analyzed, when the value obtained was US $ 8.064 million.
The volume of exports of genetic material decreased 16% in January, totaling 73 tonnes, against the 87 tonnes shipped in the same month last year. The balance of exports reached US $ 4.313 million, a decrease of 33.7% from the amount recorded in 2019, with US $ 6.507 million.
According to Ricardo Santin, executive director of ABPA, the drop in Brazilian exports of poultry genetic material is related to the increase in domestic demand for poultry genetics aimed at meat production. “With the increase in Brazilian exports of chicken meat, Brazil has been prioritizing the housing of poultry. This effect was already expected to meet the demands of the domestic and foreign markets for animal protein ”, analyzes Santin.
Among the main destinations of Brazilian exports in the segment of genetics and fertile eggs from Brazil in the analyzed period, is Senegal, which imported 430 tons. Another market with a good performance in the month was Paraguay, whose imports totaled 341 tons.
